AYF/AYC stands for All Youth Football/All Youth Cheer. AYF/AYC is the largest youth football organization in the country and the fastest growing youth football format.
What makes AYF/AYC different from Pop Warner? AYF/AYC is a grade-based format that has children competing against other children in the same grade/age/maturity level. PW has been playing a dated weight schematic for years which has left many children either unable to play or play beyond their maturity level.
Shelton now has an AYF/AYC team. The Shelton Seahawks team was founded in 2009, competing at two grade levels, (5th and7th), and since then has grown rapidly and will now field teams from 3rd grade to 8th grade in the 2010 season.We also have a 79er program for children ages 7-9 not entering 4th grade in 2010.
PW has weight limits enforced at all levels of competition which forces the bigger boys to "play up" which then forces a young boy to compete against older boys who are physically and mentally more mature...this is not good! AYF does not have weight limits and allows all boys to play football and compete against other boys the same age and maturity level. Additionally, PW has provisions for players who are older, but lighter, to "play down", again, pitting a more mentally and physically mature boy against younger boys...this is not good!
While entering the registration period for Fall 2010, Shelton AYF/AYC has promoted the league through school newsletters, newspaper ads, web-site promotion and word-of-mouth. We understand that some parents of youth football players in Shelton are not aware of Shelton AYF. This newsletter serves to notify all parents that Shelton AYF/AYC exists and is growing.
Why should your child participate in Shelton AYF/AYC?
- Shelton PW cannot guarantee your son will not have to "play up" or "play down"
- Shelton AYF is staffed by experienced, veteran coaches with many years of youth and high school coaching experience. Please visit our website to learn more about Shelton AYF, who we are and most importantly, who our coaches are...the coaches who will be the best coaches for your child.Our coaches were hand selected by Coach Roy . Many of our children's experiences with these coaches, even in OTHER SPORTS, have been extremely positive.We are the only youth football organization that has "EXPERIENCED HIGH SCHOOL COACHES". Mark Piccirillo, Cliff Barone, Mark Kovacs, Kevin Scanlon, Gary Thompson,Jeff Lever, Kenny Roberts, and Dennis Pavone make up a good portion of the staff.

AYC is just as fun, just as cool , JUST AS BIG as any other cheer format out there! Our girls keep having fun and learning going into their second year. We have tripled in size for cheer. We also encourage"mascots" to join up .Call Lucy or Lynda if your little girl would like to cheer.
In closing, we ask you as parents to share this information with those who have not yet joined a youth football program.You may also want to see more of your children's friends play with us who have joined another league but are unsure of the benefits and features of SHELTON AYF.Help us share the information by passing this email along.

AMERICAN YOUTH FOOTBALL (AYF)
|

AYF was established in 1996 and has over 600,000 members with leagues in all 50 states. The All-American Division (unlimited weight-grade specific) is the fastest growing division in youth football across the nation and has over 8 different leagues throughout New England.

AYF allows each league and association to set their ages and weight allowances for league play. The CVL follows the AYF national rule play of the All-American division from the beginning of the season, through the state championships, New England Regional, and the National tournament. This division does not allow older-lighter players to participate.

AYF has 3 leagues in Connecticut playing in the All American Division. AYF has the only true CT state championships with over 40 teams in each division in those 3 leagues from 4th through 8th grade.

AYF allows the future high school linemen to participate at every age while other leagues prevent the heavier kids to take part. Most AYF teams in the CVL are supported by their high school football coaches including Central, Monroe, Newtown, Bethel, Weston and Brien McMahon,

AYF Championships are held in Orlando, FL. AYF partners with the NFL and the NCAA, and with sponsorships from Under Armour, Riddell and Wilson.
